The idea of building a skate park in Limassol came during a trip across Australia. Alexey Gubarev noticed how many modern public skate parks were located in busy city districts. These spaces become gathering points for children and teenagers, creating conditions for active recreation, socialising and outdoor sport.
At the time, Cyprus had almost no public spaces of this kind. That is how the idea of building a modern skate park in Limassol was born. Work on City Skate Park started roughly two years before it opened and included developing the concept, the design and the preparation for construction.
Together with the Municipality of Germasogeia and its mayor Kyriakos Xydias, Alexey Gubarev walked the whole path — from the idea and the concept through to construction.
To make it happen he turned to friends and to local business for support. As a result, dozens of individuals and Cypriot companies became sponsors of the project.
That is how City Skate Park appeared in Limassol: 5000 m², the first professional-level skate park in Cyprus, built to Olympic standards. Once construction was complete, the park was handed over to the city as a gift. Entry is free and will remain so for every visitor.

City Skate Park is one of several public projects Alexey Gubarev has delivered in Cyprus.
In 2021, together with fellow philanthropists, he created a public park in Pareklisia — 3000 m² of green space overlooking the sea — taking on the cost of construction and the park's ongoing upkeep.
After the devastating wildfires he personally led the rebuild of the school in Arakapas.
Since his wife Anna Gubareva founded the environmental organisation City Friends Club, Alexey has actively supported its work and initiatives. Its first projects were funded from the Gubarev family budget, which allowed City Friends Club to start operating and to lay the foundation for its further growth.
On the initiative of Alexey and Anna Gubarev, two socially significant projects were realised in Limassol — the monument to the renowned Cypriot film director Michael Cacoyannis and the Monument of Peace and Tolerance on the city seafront. Alexey Gubarev is also a co-founder of TechIsland, the association uniting the technology industry of Cyprus.
Alexey Gubarev has lived and worked in Cyprus for over 20 years. He is a co-founder of Servers.com, a global IaaS and bare-metal hosting platform acquired by CloudOne Digital in 2023, and of Palta, a venture studio that builds and scales technology products in health and well-being.
